Why Do We Win?
Impressive Record: A look at our sales chart will tell you that we have many feathers in our cap; for, the C.P’s Group has recorded a spectacular growth in the turnover, which skyrocketed from $ 72,000, in 1995, to $ 3.2 million in 2001. This represents a growth rate 4200 % over a period of six years. What’s more, our Reebok Store in Connaught Place occupies the No.1 spot in terms of sales of all Reebok stores, countrywide. Needless to mention it’s turnover has grown at a phenomenal 30%, annually.
Forerunner of change: Setting us apart is our pioneering spirit. After all, we were the first Indian company to introduce the concept of retailing a multinational brand on Indian highways, by opening an Adidas store on NH 8. In addition, our stores on NH 8 and NH 2 are the first outlets in the country with twin price segmentation for premium brands - it sells at both regular, and discounted prices. And so sensational has been their success, that sales at the Mahipalpur store, for instance, grew 250% in the first year after launch. Other market players have followed our lead and set in motion a totally new culture of selling prime brands on national highways in the country. Again, ours was the first Rockport store in the country, in 2000. We also opened the first domestic Greg Norman collection counter, in2 001. Furthermore, our store on NH2, where the “latest arrivals” are displayed in different sizes on the shop floor for customers to pick up themselves, can perhaps claim to be the first to introduce the concept of self-service counters for footwear in the country. And if that’s not remarkable enough, we have the unique distinction of being perhaps the only business group retailing competing multinational brands at this level.
Reasons for success: We, at the C.P’s Group, are not surprised at the stupendous surge in our revenues. It simply reflects our broad corporate vision. This vision holds that in a globalizing market scenario marked by intense corporate competition, the way to success lies through leadership. Our motto, naturally, is to be a leader in our field. Consequently, operations at all the various stages of our many ventures have been marked by a far-sighted business strategy that encompasses detailed marketing surveys, optimal selection of retail locations appropriate to each product and brand, site development, and setting of stringent sales targets.
Winning Team: It is, of course, a truism that an institution is only as good as the people constituting it. The driving force behind the group’s phenomenal growth is our high achieving team of about a hundred youthful, highly qualified, and strongly motivated professionals. These range from the marketing and sales management personnel, to visual merchandisers, human resource managers, software specialists, chartered accountants, auditors, inventory managers, sales staff, and store-boys. But, being perfectionists, we are not content simply to have the best human resources. We take great pains to see that our existing manpower skills are constantly being upgraded. Hence, fortnightly training sessions are held for all our salespersons at the store level.
Ambitious Targets: Thinking big is central to our philosophy and the achievement of our long term goal of market leadership. This implies setting specific, ambitious, yet achievable targets. We fix targets at several levels - group, brand, store and sales staff. Additionally, we provide promotional plus monetary incentives at both the store and individual level on attainment o targets. Naturally, this has been a key actor in keeping staff motivation high. |
